What is an atlatl and what is it doing in Indiana?
.The atlatl dates back at least 24,000 years and probably more. It is a mechanical device, which extends the throwing arm to increase the velocity, distance, and, with practice, the accuracy of the hand held spear.
The Indiana Atlatl Association is a loose knit group of people who are interested in joining together to share knowledge and interest in the prehistoric hunting weapon called an atlatl or spear thrower. We meet at various locations around the state to educate the public about the atlatl and to compete in contests of accuracy.
